General Tree Monitor Care for most species of Tree Monitor. Additional research may apply
Intro to Tree Monitors
Tree Monitors are arboreal monitor lizards that are rapidly growing in popularity throughout the pet trade. They come in a variety of colors/species and can be found throughout the tropical rainforests of Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and Northern Australia. They roughly grow 3-4 feet including their long prehensile tail. They may be visually different, but they can be kept similar and have similar personalities.
Tree Monitor Care
These Varanids should be kept in arboreal enclosures no smaller than 4ft x 2ft x 4ft. Though these monitor lizards are primarily found on branches and foliage, but they will utilize horizontal/ground space. Decorating their enclosures with foliage, caves, and logs will help them feel safe in their enclosure. Like most monitors, they feed readily on a variety of insects and small rodents.
With proper care you can have a longterm pet Tree Monitor for 10+ years! They need a basking temperature of ~120 degrees F, an ambient temperature of ~78 degrees F, and a humidity level of ~80%. Combine that with a Tropical UVB and your Monitor is ready for success. These monitors can do some damage from a good bite! We recommend these for experienced keepers only.
